The DevNet Symposium 2023 will showcase voices from the Pacific region discussing emerging food security issues and strategies to support diverse and climate-resilient local food systems. The event will also explore how researchers and development practitioners can contribute to great food security in the region.   

At the 2023 DevNet Symposium, participants will hear from three regional experts and engage in discussions on relevant questions, including:

  1. What are the impacts of climate change on food security in the Pacific?
  2. What challenges do smallholder farmers encounter?
  3. How can we promote food sovereignty and instil pride in local food, decolonising mindsets?
  4. How can researchers and development practitioners contribute to overcoming food insecurity?
  5. What role does land tenure play in ensuring food security for people in the Pacific?
  6. How can varieties of local climate-resistant planting materials be protected and promoted in the Pacific?
  7. How can we balance local food security needs in the wake of climate change with the growing food demands in tourism?

Participants will have the option to participate in breakout sessions that focus on:

  • Food sovereignty and building pride in local foods
  • Transforming food systems for food and income security
  • Climate resilient local food systems
