Janice’s Manuscript Title – Pollution Impacts on Corals in Oceania: A Systematic Review of Ecotoxicology Studies

As a young researcher, putting all your ideas and findings into a scientific paper can be a challenge. I am very grateful for the Pacific DevNet grant project, here I learnt how to write and convey my ideas into a well structured paper. My mentor provided me with timely advice and support, she always had time for me. Thank you Dr Sam.

My research focuses on pollution impacts on corals in the Pacific Island Country Territories (PICTs) region. It assesses the current coral-related pollution studies that have been done in the region and identifies knowledge gaps that can be used to guide further research in coral monitoring. The manuscript would not have been possible with the DevNet’s mentorship programme and financial support.

I am very grateful to the DevNet Committee for this opportunity and I would like to thank my co-authors, supervisors and friends for their contributions. “Vinaka Vakalevu DevNet!!”

Janice’s Mentor

I recently participated in the DevNet Mentorship programme with Janice Taga who was working on her research article based on her Masters research on Biomonitoring coral reefs in the Pacific.

I really enjoyed getting to know Janice and learning more about her research.  Although I am not an expert in this field of research, I was still able to provide guidance and advice regarding the structure of the article and I was able to help Janice formulate her ideas into a clear argument.

I think this is a fantastic programme that creates opportunity for collaboration between NZ and Pacific staff and students and I felt privileged to be included.

Sam
