Jeevan Karki, University of Auckland

“My current research, located in the Sociology and Development Studies disciplines, focuses on the post-disaster recovery and (re-)development among the poor and marginalised community groups in Nepal.  A better understanding of the post-disaster recovery process among vulnerable populations is crucial for developing effective and just humanitarian and development policies and programmes.  The research was carried out during one of the most difficult and painful times in our recent memory posed by Covid-19.  The research methods and plans had to be adapted corresponding to the challenges invited by the pandemic thanks to the needful support and guidance of supervisors.

I am thankful to MFAT/DevNet for awarding me the postgraduate research award, which was instrumental in carrying out my doctoral research and writing tasks.  I appreciate the understanding, flexibility, and assistance I received from them to continue my research during the pandemic”.

Jeevan Karki, PhD Candidate in Sociology, October 2021
