Meet Rosie OβHagan, recipient of a DevNet Postgraduate Field Research Grant for her research, Combating Gender-based Violence Amid Colombian Armed Conflict: NGO Activities, Empowering Approaches, and Ongoing Challenges.
Reflecting on her fieldwork, Rosie shared:
βMy field research took me to the vibrant cities of BogotΓ‘ and Bucaramanga, where I explored how NGOs work to prevent and respond to gender-based violence in the context of Colombiaβs ongoing armed conflict. Through qualitative methods, this research is deeply grounded in the lived experiences of practitioners who confront this issue every day, and I was continually inspired by their commitment and courage. I am profoundly grateful to DevNet and MFAT for supporting this research, and to my incredible supervisors, Regina Scheyvens and Aisling Gallagher, whose guidance and encouragement have been invaluable throughout this journey.β

Congratulations to Dr Emma Powell, Lauren Turner, and Fran Little at Te Puna Vai Marama - Cook Islands Centre for Research on winning the DevNet Pacific Writing Retreat Grant 2026.
The retreat aims to create dedicated space for Pacific researchers to write, fostering more published work by Pacific Island scholars and equipping participants with the skills and experience to facilitate their own writing retreats in the future.
Drawing on their experience in academic writing development and research capacity-building initiatives in the Cook Islands, the team will deliver a facilitated academic writing and mentorship programme. With support from DevNet, up to 14 researchers from the Cook Islands will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced mentors in a supportive writing environment, strengthening their academic writing and research skills.

The final recipient of the 2026 DevNet Pacific Development Field Research Grant we would like to introduce is Regina Gwaibo. Regina is a Lecturer in the Fisheries and Marine Resources Department at the Papua New Guinea University of Natural Resources and Environment (PNG UNRE). She holds a Master of Science in Marine Affairs and Resource Management from National Taiwan Ocean University and is passionate about advancing sustainable marine and coastal resource management in Papua New Guinea.
Through her research project, From Pollution to Solution: Developing an Evidence-Based Waste Management System in Papua New Guinea, Regina will investigate the sources of plastic pollution in urban and rural coastal environments. Her research will quantify and analyse the composition and distribution of plastic debris, using this baseline information to develop and trial practical waste management solutions.
Regina is grateful to DevNet for supporting this important work through its research grant programme. With plastic pollution posing an increasing threat to marine ecosystems and coastal communities worldwide, this timely research will contribute valuable local solutions to a global challenge.
Congratulations, Regina!

Congratulations beautiful Ms Regina Leka. You are an inspiration to future young women β€οΈ God bless your work π
I’m really impressed by your profile you’re absolutely stunning. I can’t stop looking at your picture. π I hope the men around you haven’t divorce their wife just to be with you lol. π Just kidding about the stealing hearts part, I don’t mean any harm. But seriously, if I manage to make you smile, Will it be okay with you sending me a message and follow me too so we could get to know each other better.
It is our pleasure to introduce our next Pacific Development Field Research Grant awardee β Anawaite Matadradra-Dolavale.
Ana is an emerging Pacific scholar based in the School of Law and Social Sciences at the University of the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji. She holds a Master of Arts in Development Studies and a PhD in History from the University of the South Pacific.
Ana's current research focuses on social cohesion, trust, and community life within informal settlements in Fiji. While research on informal settlements has often focused on relocation, housing, infrastructure, and environmental vulnerability, her work explores how people from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds build relationships, support one another, and navigate everyday life within shared community spaces. The research also examines how migration, settlement experiences, displacement, and colonial legacies continue to shape community relationships and social cohesion today.
"I am truly grateful to DevNet NZ for awarding me this research grant and for supporting emerging Pacific scholars and community-based research across the Pacific region. Vinaka vakalevu for this opportunity," said Ana.
Congratulations Ana!
