Maria Borovnik is a Senior Lecturer of Development Studies at Massey University, with a PhD in Geography, attained at the University of Canterbury.
Her research is placed within the intersection of mobilities, migration and development, mostly concerned with the strategies that people apply when their livelihoods are shaped by mobilities. Her research has explored seafarers’ mobilities, mostly focused on those from Kiribati and Tuvalu. She has recently started engaging with non-representational approaches, which acknowledge the embodied experiences of participants. Building on occupational mobilities she is currently engaging with roads and road workers.
