Samantha Leonard joined Massey University as the Programme Coordinator for the new Masters of Sustainable Development Goals degree ( in 2019. Following her BSc and BSc Honours in Geography, she completed her MSc in Geography (socio-economic development and natural resource use) and then her PhD in Education for Sustainable Development. Prior to Massey, Sam was an Academic Programme Coordinator for the Honours in Development Studies at the Nelson Mandela University, South Africa. Her teaching and research experience includes Development Theory, Urban and Rural Development, Local Economic Development, Social and Environmental Sciences and Sustainable Human Settlements. As a University Lecturer, she believes her role is to inspire students to think differently, to question what they have always accepted, and hopefully, to decide to live in such a way that they might make a difference to the world around them.
